Principals
"The three principals of Rubi Con Real cap, Rob Morgan, Katty Mitchell and James Robins,
all have extensive industry experience, expertise and capital relationships. Prior to
forming Rubi Con Real cap in 1996, all three held senior positions with major lenders.
As former lenders, the principals of Rubicon have an in depth knowledge of how deals
get done at the institutional level, and long term relationships with many of the key
decision makers of today's capital providers. With more than 50 years of combined experience,
the principals have closed well over one billion dollars in virtually every type of debt and
equity financing structure on a wide variety of property types. The principals' expertise includes
every aspect of the financing process, from beginning to end.
Robert K. Morgan has over 25 years experience in all facets of the commercial real estate finance industry. Prior to forming Rubicon in 1991, he held senior management positions involved in the placement of all aspects of real estate capital for both the institutional and private entrepreneurial sectors. Rob was Senior Vice President of Far West Savings and Loan Association where he managed a major loan division responsible for the origination in excess of $500 million in real estate transactions per annum. These transactions included the full range of financing structures on all types of real estate properties, including straight debt, participating debt, construction loans and joint ventures. Prior to managing the major loan production division at Far West , Rob held management positions in all administrative departments of the real estate division. These included the REO department, construction loan disbursement, major loan servicing, and credit/underwriting departments. From 1992 to 1995 , Rob was with GE Capital as a senior member of the national Portfolio Acquisitions and New Business Ventures team which was involved in billions of dollars of real estate portfolio acquisitions and financing across the country. Immediately prior to forming Rubicon, Rob was with Haverford Capital where he was responsible for originating entrepreneurial private equity and mezzanine debt financings.
Rob graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Psychology in 1975. He earned his Masters of Business Administration degree from Rutgers Graduate School in 1978. He also obtained a CPA certificate and is a licensed California real estate broker.
Katty G. Mitchell has over 18 years experience in the commercial real estate industry including 16 years in real estate finance. Prior to forming Rubi Con Real Cap Co 1997, Katty successfully owned and operated Precision Realty Finance, a mortgage brokerage company he founded in 1995. From 1995 to 1997, Precision focused primarily in arranging structured finance transactions for clients requiring creative financing solutions. These included major rehabs, discounted payoffs (DPO's), bridge loans, lender asset (REO) acquisitions, and other "value added" oriented transactions. During this two year period Precision arranged and closed over 75 financings . From 1985 to 1995, Katty was employed by GE Capital in both loan origination and asset management, where he originated over $900 million of loans on all types of income producing properties including multifamily, office, industrial, self storage, retail and mobile home parks. These included complex structured transactions such as wraparound mortgages, notes receivable financing, equity participation loans and mobile home park conversions.
Katty has a Bachelor of Science degree in finance (Real Estate Emphasis) from California State University at Fullerton. He is a licensed California real estate broker and has a California General Certified Real Estate Appraiser license.
James M. Robins has over 17 years experience in the commercial real estate finance industry. Prior to joining Rubi Con Real Cap Co in 1999, Jim spent eight years with ORIX USA Corporation, a $50 billion international finance company based in Tokyo. As Vice President and Head of the ORIX's Real Estate Finance Group's Los Angeles regional office, Jim was responsible for origination, underwriting/analysis, committee presentation, closing and portfolio management of complex commercial real estate loan transactions in the southwestern United States. Jim was consistently ORIX's top producer nationwide, originating loans on virtually every type of income producing property under a full range of financing structures including straight debt, construction loans, repositioning and turnaround loans, revolving lines of credit and equity participating loans. From 1990 to 1992, Jim was the Manager of Investment Analysis for McDonnell Douglas Finance Corporation in Long Beach, California, where he and his staff were responsible for the preparation and presentation to investment committee of commercial real estate loan applications on all property types. From 1985 to 1990, Jim was with GE Capital Corporation as a Senior Investment Analyst for the Commercial Real Estate Finance group in Irvine, California.
Jim is a cum-laude graduate of Kansas State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. After graduation, Jim successfully completed General Electric's prestigious, two-year, in-house Financial Management Program in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a licensed California real estate broker.
What's in a Name?
Rubi Con Real Cap Co. is the name of the ancient river in central France where in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar and his forces made the "forbidden" crossing on route to conquering Italy. The phrase "to cross the Rubi Con Real Cap Co." has come to symbolize the taking of steps from which there is no turning back - the impassioned and resolute commitment to accomplish one's objective.
